During the intake appointment for employment services, our goal is to gain a comprehensive understanding of your background, skills, employment history, and career goals. This appointment serves as a starting point to tailor our services to your specific needs and create a roadmap towards successful employment. We will engage in a one-on-one conversation to delve deeper into your employment needs and aspirations. The intake specialist will ask questions to gather important information, including:
Personal Background:
We will explore your educational background, previous work experience, and any relevant certifications or qualifications you possess. This helps us understand your skills, strengths, and areas for development.
Career Objectives:
We will discuss your short-term and long-term career goals, including the type of employment you are seeking, desired industry or field, preferred work environment, and any specific job roles of interest. This information allows us to align our services with your objectives.
Employment History:
We will review your previous employment history, including job titles, responsibilities, and duration of employment. Understanding your past work experiences helps us identify transferable skills and uncover potential opportunities.
Skills Assessment (as needed):
We may conduct a skills assessment to evaluate your existing skills, abilities, and areas for improvement. This may involve written assessments, practical demonstrations, or discussions about your proficiency in specific areas.
Support Needs:
We will inquire about any specific challenges or barriers you may be facing in your employment journey. This can include factors such as transportation, childcare, language proficiency, disabilities, or other support requirements.
Preferences:
We will explore your preferences regarding work hours, location, salary expectations, and any other factors that influence your ideal employment situation.
Based on the information gathered during the intake appointment, we will work collaboratively to develop an individualized action plan to guide our future interactions and support your employment goals. The action plan may include recommendations for training, resume development, interview preparation, job search strategies, and additional services tailored to your unique needs.
At the end of the intake appointment, we will provide you with an overview of the services we offer, the anticipated timeline for achieving your goals, and answer any questions you may have. Our aim is to ensure that you feel supported, informed, and empowered to take the next steps towards securing meaningful employment.
Employment preparation services provide comprehensive support to individuals seeking to enter or re-enter the job market. These services aim to enhance job seekers' overall employability by equipping them with the tools and strategies needed to navigate the employment process successfully.
The employment preparation process typically includes the following components:
Career Exploration and Assessment:
Individuals engage in self-assessment exercises to identify their interests, skills, values, and goals. Career exploration activities help individuals explore various industries, job roles, and potential career paths. Assessment tools may be used to match individuals' strengths and preferences with suitable employment options.
Resume and Cover Letter Development:
Assistance is provided in creating professional resumes and compelling cover letters that highlight individuals' relevant skills, experiences, and achievements. Guidance is given on tailoring these documents to specific job applications and optimizing their impact.
Job Search Strategies:
Job seekers are educated on effective job search techniques, such as utilizing online job boards, networking, and leveraging professional connections. Strategies for accessing the hidden job market, including informational interviews and targeted outreach, may be explored. Techniques for conducting efficient job searches, organizing job leads, and tracking application progress are shared.
Interview Preparation:
Coaching is provided to develop strong interview skills, including how to articulate accomplishments, answer common interview questions, and present a professional demeanor. Mock interviews may be conducted to practice responses, improve confidence, and refine interview performance. Guidance is given on appropriate attire, body language, and overall interview etiquette.
Skill Enhancement and Training:
Identification of skills gaps and recommendations for relevant training opportunities to improve employability. Access to workshops, seminars, online courses, or vocational training programs that target specific industry requirements or job-related skills. Assistance in obtaining certifications or licenses that can enhance job prospects.
Once the individual is ready to actively begin placement, we begin researching and applying for relevant positions in the community. We have partnership with employers in the community too, so we can also facilitate the opportunity to interview within organizations of interest. We also keep track of our search using job search tracking sheets, to assist with following up on next steps until a job offer is secured.
Job Application Assistance:
Guidance is provided on completing job applications accurately, including navigating online application systems and addressing any required supplemental materials. Support may be offered in preparing portfolios or assembling work samples, if applicable to the individual's field.
Job Retention Strategies:
Education on workplace professionalism, effective communication, and problem-solving skills to help individuals succeed in their new employment. Guidance on navigating workplace dynamics, adapting to organizational culture, and handling workplace challenges.
Once a job offer is accepted, we then switch gears to focus on onboarding and transitioning. We can assist with paperwork, employer communications, and transportation planning (routes, etc). We can also assist with requesting accommodations and specific schedules for the individual, to create stability and long-term success.
